Sarge is a soldier, and has been for most of his life. He has faithfully served Equestria for decades, defending its citizens from all sorts of threats both within Equestria’s borders and beyond them. He has served in nearly every division of the Royal Guard at least once, most notably the Long Patrol Division, a detachment that serves to protect Equestria from active threats wherever they may be.
Sarge gives off an aura of stoic authority, making it difficult for ponies to approach him. He is tough and strict with his training, not hesitating to chew out a pony for getting something wrong. It is very difficult to get him truly angry, and few have ever seen him in such a state. Most ponies wouldn’t know it, but he does enjoy his career.
Sarge is a no-nonsense stallion, preferring to get to the heart of the matter rather than deal with semantics. Because of this he is socially inept, unable and unwilling to engage with others in a normal social setting. His friends are few but solid ponies who wouldn’t let him down and whom he trusts unconditionally. He has no desires to engage in social activities, preferring to work towards keeping Equestria safe so the average pony doesn’t have to face the things he has to.
He is utilitarian, owning very few personal items, preferring to live a spartan lifestyle. He has no desires for luxuries or comforts that other ponies take for granted, requiring only what he needs to keep going efficiently.
Despite his outward appearance and disposition he does care for others. He wants to make sure the ponies under his command make it out of any situation alive, he wants to protect the citizens from the things he’s had to face, and he wants his fellow guard to succeed in their own endeavors.
Sarge garnered his nickname from what his peers call his “drill sergeant mode” when he becomes far more expressive than usual, raising his voice and taking on an angry face. He typically uses this whenever he’s chewing out somepony for messing up or training new recruits.
On the battlefield is when Sarge becomes most terrifying, even more so than his drill sergeant mode. He reaches a scary level of calm, his face betraying no emotion what-so-ever. He becomes almost invisible with his hoof movements, taking down opponents with masterfully placed hoof strikes to weak points.
