This video explains it perfectly (just to let you know in advance there is a great amount of toilet humor, so in case you’re not a fan of it I apologize in advance).
LOL, they did that? Ha ha, I’m listening to them now and I’m laughing! XD
No, I’ll have to look that up on Youtube some time. They really got away with that?
I remember an American-made Bomberman game had alot of hidden profanties from the voice actors in the data. (Who are ones like Charlie Adler, and Billy West known for working in mostly kid/family shows ironically.) Game hackers found ’em, and put ’em up on Youtube.
Edited
Dayum, it had that back then? Interesting.
Then again, ever heard of Hong Kong 97? That was an infamous SNES game that had for one of its first lines: “A herd of fuckin ugly reds are rushing. Through the mainland.”
Yeah, the ESRB confuses me sometimes.
“EarthBound” was rated “K-A: Kid-to-adult” (the equivalent of the “E: for Everyone” modern rating) back in 1995, but now after getting a Virtual Console rerelease it is now “T: For Teens.” (Basically “PG-13) Granted, that game got away with ALOT back then. (Including use of the word “crap,” which is kinda a cuss word, and having blood in it.)
I guess it’s cute graphic style fooled the ESRB.
I see, very interesting and yet odd (they censor the 3DS version but give it a higher rating? :P).
Yeah, while blue & green blood already existed in Zelda: Ocarina of Time, (from certain enemies) there actually was red blood shown as blood stains in the Shadow Temple, and on the mini boss Dead Hand. (They were removed from the 3DS version, yet ironically it still got an E-10 rating higher then the N64 version.)
Red blood was shown originally at the end of the game when Ganondorf “coughs up blood,” after being beaten the first time, and when Link preforms the “final blow” to the massive Ganon monster when it’s defeated. It was changed to green blood in later copies of the N64 game (including the GameCube & Wii rereleases, and 3DS remake.)
Yet Kirby gets red blood unedited surprisingly.
Yikes!
They changed the color of the blood in some games? Reminds me of how they did that when they tried to bring Saint Seiya over here but changed the blood color to blue, green, purple and called it “mystic energies/sweat” to try to cover the fact it was blood.
Not once, but twice. (In Kirby 3 & Kirby 64, which both had the same final boss Zero whom actually bleeds! Even as a form of attack oddly.) Surprisingly, the color of the red blood wasn’t changed like in Zelda:OoT.
Interesting…
Frankly considering Happy Wheels has a ton of blood and gore in it (the goriest game I’ve ever played and I love it) I’m surprised no one’s done an Itchy and Scratchy level on it. They did a “Celestia’s Rampage” one but not them?
Kirby had blood in it once? Wow… O___o
Funny thing is, said game was one of the few “E” or “K-A: Kid to Adult” (they’re basically the same rating) rated games to have blood in it. Though, nowadays, it’d likely be E-10.
“Kirby’s Dream Collection: Anniversary Edition” got E-10 for having red blood in it.
Edited
They actually made a video game of those two, but it sucked from what I heard and saw of it.
“Itchy & Scratchy” was kinda an exaggeration of cartoon violence. I actually enjoyed watching them on the Simpsons as a kid, even though it wasn’t a kid show technically. I remember they even had an episode where Marge Simpson was trying to ban cartoon violence. (Which might’ve also been spoofing the issues over cartoons at the time.)
Never saw/read “ Desperaux” so I can’t have an opinion on it.
Agreed on that, most of the cartoons nowadays just seem to talk down to kids while the original ones are better done, even if they’re a bit campy. The 2000’s did have some good shows I grew up with like Arthur on PBS and Xiaolin Showdown on Kids WB (which probably was the best of the WB shows growing up besides Teen Titans). Heck I still enjoy a lot of the classic Walt Disney films today.
LOL they made fun of people who complained about that too much. I remember Itchy and Scratchy would also make fun of overly violent cartoons also.
I will admit though, I did find the concept of banning soup in Desperaux stupid but it was because I never read the book, sadly I did not like the film and it killed any interest I had in reading it :(
I loved Disney & Warner Bros. cartoons better then most “kiddy” shows when I was little. Too many kinda talk down to kids in comparison to ones with a bit more edge.
I heard back in the ’80s, & ’90s some parents thought that stuff like the original (campy) TMNT cartoon was “too violent” for kids, even though it was very tame compared to later shows. Some shows like “Tiny Toon Adventures” made fun of people who complained about “cartoon violence” and such.
Agreed. They should be better off sticking with Teletubbies (loved that as a kid, not so much as an adult), Paw Patrol, most of the modern Care Bears, and stay away from classic Disney films or Warner Bros. cartoons. And I’m afraid their boys are going to grow into shallow, pusillanimous adults too…
I never cried at that as a kid too, but I do as an adult (I’m mature and such but a lot of things with death do make me sad).
Oy vey, it’s like one of those people who only let their kids watch Teletubbies, and nothing else.
I think Teletubbies is going to mess up more kids then “Bambi.”
To be honest, I never cried over “Bambi” as a kid.
I guess…
Though this may be off topic, I think I found a perfect example of an overprotective parent here:

I mean seriously, this reviewer is a complete wuss (his comments on Old Yeller literally make me cringe) and I think his kids are never going to last five minutes in the real world or something, and if he’s so bothered by what he saw there he may as well ban Disney films in his house altogether.
Maybe it’s too obscure nowadays.
I also miss “Who’s Line is it Anyways?” (I think they revived it, with some of the original cast, but I can’t find it now.)
Shame. I wonder why…
They don’t seem to air that show anymore. I kinda miss it.
I’d have to see that episode of “Drew Carry”…
Not to mention, Odie talked at one point, and the “U.S. Acres/Orson’s Farm” cast cameo’d.
Yeah, it was a very creative episode.
Only other show I can think of that did something like that was those “find all the mistakes” contest episodes of “The Drew Carry Show.”
That episode was “Mistakes Will Happen”, if I’m correct, it was hilarious, especially with Garfield having a lady’s voice at one point, and it was like one of these “What’s Wrong?” sections in those Highlights Kids magazines! XD
Yeah, ’80s/’90s cartoons had many animation goofs like that. (Usually, ’cause due to the overseas animation, they were too cheap to correct the mistakes.) “Garfield & Friends” even had a whole episode making fun of that phenomenon.
LOL, that kind of mistake is funny XD
