Honestly a much better villain excuse than most, he’s just trying to enjoy himself and essentially go on a giant ride of hedonism and smashing stuff for the lulz. 
I like it.

He claims he’s trying to build his army up to the point where he can take over the world, but that seems a bit of a excuse. Along with being the ‘King’ of precisely nothing, I’m really not buying him as being anything other than a selfish, vain pirate, who simply loves the lifestyle and only pretends at higher motives.

This is the kind of dialogue you’d hear on an abridged series.

But I did it in Liev Schreiber’s voice, because I already watched that one trailer.

If you can’t get a job you enjoy, why bother?

At first glance, that’s circular logic, since he wouldn’t need to maintain such an armada if he wasn’t doing all this conquest in the first place. So money can’t be the only reason for it.
 
The only conclusion is that he’s doing it for the fun of it.
