It also lets Spike act the way he’s supposed to; as a grounding agent and a realist to the overly studious Twilight, which was nulled after a while and they just decided to perform the buttmonkey status on him in excess.
But with the inclusion of Starlight, he gets to return to that role and IS qualified to be a sort of master to her student. He gives advice and questions the obvious to get said student to re-think their actions and try to see the bigger picture, since both twilight and starlight can’t see the forest for the trees.
Starlight’s relationship with him is one of the reasons I like her so much. She actually seems to respect him as a kind of senior student.
I dunno, once Starlight showed up, Spike seemed to get much better treatment.
So, that hasn’t changed from the show either?

Looks like Spike’s lot in this movie is to suffer for the duration of it while he’s mostly aware of the fact that his fate is to suffer.
