They did just get hit by something enough to break through a solid bridge.

They’re probably weakened by the attack, so responding with magic/flight isn’t so easy.

In terms of fan-guessin, maybe that grenade-like attack actually has ‘literal’ weakening properties.

I’m presuming their wings are disabled somehow, or this really doesn’t make any sense.

Fluttershy does appear to be flapping hers, without any noticeable effect.
