Description

For the middle day of the year, I decided to do a front view, referencing >>1403984 for the mane and tail. The light is coming from in front of her and to her right, which might not be clear from the 3D arrow I tried to draw. I’m not really sure about how I shaded her muzzle.

This is Day #183.

Thanks, I’ll give that a try; I’ve been drawing the two catchlights because that’s how they’re always drawn in the show, but I’ll see if changing that up helps some. I’d already drawn the eyes in Day #184 by the time you suggested that, but I might try it out in Day #185 (or Day #186, since what I have planned for Day #185 might not lend itself to that).

It occurs to me that you take a lot of time and pains to try to figure out your shading, but you but you don’t account for light angle when you’re doing your catchlights.

If you want to go to the next level with light play then think of the eye as a spherical mirror. The placement of your catchlight is going to depend on where your light sources are and the number of catchlights you have depends on the number of light sources you have. For example, if you just have one light source there will only be one possible reflection, so you can only expect one catchlight at most.

So since you generally only do drawings where there’s one strong light source you would only expect one large catchlight.

Also, your faces from front view look even more uncanny than normal. Not trying to be mean there since I know that’s something you’ve worked on a lot and you’ve made great strides in correcting that issue as time has gone on. You should consider doing a few rough sketches on your own to see if you can find better proportions for a front view.

Then again, that just might be me, you may want to ask for another opinion if you’re especially attached to these facial proportions.

Go to your profile page and click on “User Links.” This will prompt you to create a new association with a user and a specific artist tag. In most cases, you’ll also need a link to whatever website you do your art from. If these are Derpibooru-exclusive, put your Derpibooru page. If (as I suspect) these are first uploaded to /mlp/. . . actually, I’m not sure what to do in such a case. Try messaging a moderator about it.

Once you’ve done that, submit it for administrative review. If all goes well, you might get a message asking to confirm it, then the association is complete. You’ll get an “Artist” badge, and since you’ve uploaded at least 100 images under your tag, you’ll also get the “An Artist Who Rocks” badge.

I might be missing a thing or two (and keep in mind that I’m not a moderator), but that’s pretty much the gist of it. Good luck.

Nice to see you’ve made an account.

Consider associating your artist tag with your account. It’ll get you a badge or two!
