I kinda think I agree with the “may not have died” theory. Mostly because the other villains had somewhat open ended defeats, except Nightmare Moon who was just returned to normal.  
Discord: Got sealed into stone… again. Could possibly get out some other time.  
Crysalis: Got blasted off again. Hardly a permanent defeat, just ask Team Rocket.  
Sombra: Got blown to bits. Can apparently regenerate.

I don’t think Sombra died, really. His horn flying off after the Crystal Heart nuked him was given an odd emphasis, otherwise.
 
Besides, he IS made of shadow now. That’d be hard to kill.

Don’t forget that there’s been an image floating around on the internet of Trixie wearing a collar that appears to have Sombra on it.
 
Even if he is DEAD, he may still have some significance in the story. Which is fine by me, as I felt like he didn’t have enough development.

I’d like to think that maybe, in some way, Sombra survived and will return in a more simple and less powerful form. He was previously a unicorn, right? So maybe we’ll see him as such in future episodes
