I draw male snouts much larger/blockier than female ones, if I draw a female snout and the pony is supposed to be male then the commissioner usually asked me to make them look femmy.

Lucky for you, eyelashes are also typically a good indicator.
 
But the best one is the female symbol front and center on the image.
