Empathy fits Starlight better. Her rwnge of friends show this.

For me, her sociopathic tendencies overshadow any “empathy” she might have. But running with DWK’s analysis, if we tweak her pre-reformation “forced acceptance” schtick into something healthy, she could have been the Element of Tolerance.

It’s not so much empathy as hijacking their memories. Sunset doesn’t seem to feel what they felt, just learns what they knew by touching them without their permission. That’s not even accounting for the fact that Sunset hasn’t empathized with anyone but Sci-Twi and possibly Flash (whom she only spoke to long enough to get him off both Twilights, then dropped him like a sack of bricks). With every other adversary, she was indifferent at best and prone to arrogant smirks at worst, where Starlight has at least tried to reach out to both villains she’s dealt with since reform, almost as if she learned more from it all than Sunset did.
 
I don’t know if that makes Starlight the Element of Empathy (a purely fanon thing, mind you), but there’s even less supporting the idea that it’s Sunset. :/

Nope. I don’t watch a EQG but based on the few I’ve seen, Sunset literally has the magical ability to empathize with others just by making physical contact. If she touches another person, she immediately understands that other person. This is why I laughed when the video said Starlight is the element of empathy. Its bait.
