That’s not really the pony way, is it? It’s all about friendship and harmony and all that good stuff! If this world had fusion, it wouldn’t be about one being dominant over the other(s) and just using them as a source of extra power or something. Who is the greater who controls and who is the lesser who gets controlled? Nobody.
 
Could you trust and accept someone so much that you would share a body and to some degree a mind with them? And if you’re not there yet, but only the form you create when you do this could stop some world-ending horror, what would you have to do to reach that point with each other, even if that person was your best friend?
 
And if it was the ‘combined personality’ version instead of the ‘copiloting’ version, imagine letting the line between you and someone else disappear. Memories, personality, everything, theirs is yours as much as yours is yours, and the other way around. If you had the guts to do it, what would that person be like? And when you went back, how much of your partner, and of the person you make as one, sticks around? Just having that experience to remember, of when you and that other person were both you, would change you forever, just because you’d have two other ways of looking at the world.

Fusions to me are like making fruit smoothies. You either throw in more of one trait/fruit and less of another trait/fruit to make a good tasty beverage mainly dominated by the one dominant personality/fruit. Only which pony is the dominant personality?
