She and Luna never used the Elements to stop Sombra. That wasn’t a rainbow laser, they just straight-up wasted him. He was just a unicorn, after all.
Even so, some of that holds true. But it just means the only way Celestia can get things done is through manipulating others at this point, and something tells me she hates being a chessmaster. Playing the game becomes a problem when the pieces are your loved ones.

Oh please,if she was actually fighting the changeling attack, she wouldn’t have popped up at last minute (with her own niece’s wedding ending and everything) asking what did she miss.
She was totally snoozing during the whole ordeal.
Celestia dropped the ball on noticing her sister turning bad before it was too late, but then she sealed her away in the moon for the good of the world.
She manipulated the mane 6 into meeting, creating new bearers of the EoH because she could no longer use them, and so finally saved Luna.
She & Luna beat Discord the first time, and the second time she explicitly used Twilight to beat him (again because she’d lost her connection to the Element of Harmony). She exactly the same thing with Sombra.
The Changeling Queen did legitimately beat her, though, but that was because the Power of LOVE turned out to be more powerful than anypony imagined. And it ultimately turned out fine, because she called in the right ponies to do the job for her.

At lest we see Celestia try to do something with the Chrysalis ordeal, meanwhile Luna is lazying it up off screen.
This is why Luna is betterThis is why I like Luna more.
Is it any wonder she’s able to use dark magic so easily? She must have a lot of pent up anger, at herself and at her circumstances. It gets worse before it gets better.
