I see, I assumed by political power you meant authority in how things are done.
If Spike fell out hard with either of them and started fighting, Spike can call more to his side:
Throax and Ember by themselves have all they’re influences and power in one area. And those in it selves have their own civil conflicts and issues to iron out. Spike has a lot of influence anywhere BUT Ponyvile at this point. The fact that he realizes that he can start an Equestria war with events, started by him, falling a certain way is telling.
What do you mean he has more political power? He’s an assistant to a princess and apparently a official ambassador now, but that is hardly equal to, let alone greater than, being the leader of an entire nation/species like Ember and Thorax are. Keep in mind the Changelings and Dragons are not under Celestia’s rule, and weren’t even allies of her until recently.

Funny you should mention the Yaks… there was a comic about Dragons and Yaks almost going to war, and Spike was there. He (thinks he) knows how Ember acts when she feels like she’s being insulted and it’s not pretty. Though to be fair, that Yak incident was probably the wake-up call that made Ember realize she needs to try harder to be friendly.
Still, poor Spike.
Yup, but to conclude “they must not meet” based on nothing but an assumption and to consider no other options was too much. Not to mention thinking that even if they didn’t get along it would result in a war. The yaks gave Spike a bad precedence in diplomacy.
It’s not like it wasn’t a reasonable assumption.
Well they did forgive him very quickly. And they had legitimate explanations for why his lying offended them so much (namely what they thought it said about how Spike saw them).
