Discussion has been weeded out, he called Pharynx his “Elder Broodmate”, meaning that “brother” is a very loose term he’s using as “another changeling that hatched around the same time as me”.
But only ONE brother is a problem, so it is not in any way grammatically incorrect or unusual to not imply that he has multiple brothers when only talking about a specific individual.
@Ihhh
Quite the question. I’d bring up more theories (such as the possibility that Chrysalis stole away entire batches of eggs in order to brainwash/groom them to being subservient and hiding their identities), but I think we’ll learn plenty with Thorax’s brother.
@PonyPon
Thorax’s brother is one of the ones sticking with the “old” way. This would lead me to assume that Thorax and his brother are around the same ages from the same batch which may qualify for them to be much older than we may expect.
Thorax mentioned that they have been under her rule for hundreds of years. Considering there were no mature changelings in the nursery, Thorax may be several hundred years old.
@PonyPon @Hebbocake
That would really make Chrysalis evil, then, considering she still decided on conquering Equestria instead of working together with the ponies. (That, or the ponies are evil for rejecting the Changelings so thoroughly that they feel conquering them is the only way. I’m sure that’s also a possibility, right?)
That was never stated though. We’re arguing head canon at this point.
Okay.

@Daneasaur
Me too, most people do that.
I have two brothers, if referring to only one of them, I frequently will still say “my brother”.
If he thought he had tons of brothers, he would have said “one of my brothers”, not “my brother”, which implies a few at most.
Edited
Because he’s one of the lings doing this.
And no one said he only had one.
Then why does he refer to his brother as if he only has one?
He could be assuming a relationship because he hatched alongside those other changelings.
They could all be assuming such connections.
How would he know who he was related to if he never knew who his parents were? Why are we even making all these assumptions?
true
He remembered being a baby and being different from other changelings, did he not?
You saw that flashback.

How would he know?
@PonyPon
If all the eggs were stolen, how would Thorax know that someone was his brother?

What about Thorax’s parents?
That’s a bit more complicated than just saying it’s tradition.

I’m not following that logic.
Like, no mature changelings in the nursery is weird, but not quite proof there were none at all at the time.
Thorax mentioned that they have been under her rule for hundreds of years. Considering there were no mature changelings in the nursery, Thorax may be several hundred years old.
Possibly, but unlikely considering the bias the writing tends to have when it comes to other races.

Maybe, we simply don’t know.
