Short Answer: Look at Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic ‘06
 
Long Answer: Amy Rose (and the SA2 citizens) ever since Sonic Adventure 2 has had issues differentiating every new hedgehog character that gets added from Sonic himself. So as soon as she see’s someone like Edgy the Hedgy (Shadow) or Pothead the Porcupine (Silver), her first instinct is to assume that it’s Sonic and go hug them.
