I think that’s more dramatic than needed. That would basically mean he’s been terrorizing his own hive in order to keep them scared, thus hoping they would ‘go back’ somehow. Then he would turn out to be a phony if he needed to defeat the maulwurf. It just comes off as weird to me.
I suspected him, too. I’m happy that he wasn’t.
I honestly thought that too.
