There are some very cool things there, yes.
yeah, in a real steampunk instrument, the gears would have some actual plausible function

Shes mostly made from Milliput clay and greenstuff, the details on cello are plasticard, some watch parts and other gubbins. Painted with acrylics. If you want to see some WIP pics: http://fav.me/d5f1zxh

I wish I have seen this back then (in 2012 I wasn’t even in the Herd).
a lot of the design choices on Octavia herself bother me
I’m proud to say I’ve upvoted this back then.
Looking at this carefully, Octavia seems to have been made with modelling clay here.
The core of the cello looks like it’s carved hardwood.
The scrollwork piece looks like brass etching.
The cog wheel is most likely out of an old watch mechanism.
The strings are just wire
The other details on the cello are most likely parts from various model kits.
Overall, a great piece of sculpting.
