Description

I drew this during the “Pinkie Pie Chocolate Rain Party”, a brony meetup on September 30th - October 1st, 2017.

Now before anypony gets to my throat (as strangely enough seems to be the case with these kind of questions) I am NOT seriously into any of those best pony~~, best princess~~, best anything kind of questions. I cannot name one pony as best of favorite thereby demoting everypony else to not best or not favorite. All too often it seems like a comparision between apples and oranges to me since I appreciate all the ponies for their individual qualities and quirks.
The joke about Luna’s nominating Princess Platinum as best Princess in the textbubble is that that evening I played the role of Princess Platinum in a stageplay performance we did there.
But just to add a little fuel to considerations about Princess Platinum, the least regarded princess in all of the TV episodes, here are a few points which make her interesting:

  • Preceeding Celestia and Luna she is the first Princess in Equestrian history that we know about (more likely than not there were others before her, seeing that she is stated to be the daughter of the unicorn king, but no other princess is named before her). She may have defined a lot of what “princessdom” is in Equestria.
  • She is the only non-alicorn princess we know of.
  • She was born before the union of the three tribes and therefore had to overcome problems and prejudices of her upbringing that the other Princesses never had to cope with. She had her fall (being frozen solid by the windigos in the cave), but got up again (with the help of the others) and overcame her problems. This part of her story is something that would likely be meaningful to Princess Luna in particular.

The book, The Journal of the Two Sisters by Amy Keating Rogers suggests for the relationship between Princess Platinum and the royal sisters to start very much on the wrong hoof with snooty Platinum daring to berate the royal sisters for still being blank flanks and questining their claim to the rule over Equestria. However, the book also suggests that Luna was very impressed by Platinum’s spirit and that they really warmed up for each other after Luna set a manticore upon her and pranked her in other ways to scare her into submission (here are some lines by Luna written about Platinum):
“I expected that prissy Princess to run and hid, but much to my surprise, she haughtily flipped her hair and stood her ground.”
(page 44)
“The princess composed herself and claimed that she would have gotten her wits about her and found a way to defeat the manticore. I had to give it to her. This Princess Platinum was not willing to go down without a fight. But then neither was I.”
(page 46)
“As I cleaned the muck out of her mane, the princess then asked me if, as her new best friend, I could give her lessons on how to speak in the Royal Canterlot Voice. She thought it was simply fabulous! I couldn’t help but smile. We have a feeling this is the begining of a beautiful friendship!”
(page 49)

So these are my two cents about the most overlooked Princess in Equestrian history
