Before I continue I think I should explain how these characters know each other:
 
Catrina was the one who taught magic to Star Swirl the bearded after he helped her to get rid of her witchweed problem. She later became became his rival in magical research and became friend with starswirl’s two students.
 
Torch fought Tirek alongside Celestia and despite the fact he don’t like “friendship stuff” and don’t want ponies to come to the dragon lands, he still respect her for her strenght and consider her as a friend (although as a dragon he would rather die than admit it).
 
The four of them were a sort of mane 6 of their time, with the difference that they took care of small menaces (like king Sombra for instance) alone and came together only when bigger threats showed-up like giant monsters or eldritch abominations.
