To be honest, comparing MLP to Blade Runner is a bit wasteful. The genre is not the same, the target demographic is not the same, they are not competing with each other in box office.
I consider, in this case, we must consider our focus, comparison, and evaluation, within the sector the film belongs. Compare it to other child oriented films, to other animations. You will see its merit then.

I understand your resentment, CMC Scootaloo, but your answer is harsh.
It is certainly better to try to help people stop being bad, instead of punishing them.
Rehab is always better than imprisonment.
Rehab means recovery and contributing to society, helping someone to help everyone.
Imprisonment means more resources from society spent to make people go even further down a path of darkness.
Also, everyone can be a douche sometimes. Even the mane six have had multiple douche moments each.
But being self-aware and apologizing for it helps.

No. You are terribly mistaken. I watch the show, and I do learn lessons from it, but I am still a douche.
But even as a douche, I have values, and ironically your values are not as in tune with the show as you think. The idea of locking people up for being vile jerks is something most ponies would probably deem unacceptable.
The problem with these people has little to do with them being jerks, and more to do with them believing everyone should think the way they do.
They should, but people like this will never watch it. Cause they know that the lessons would make them feel bad for the way they are and that they would change them, so they avoid everything that could make them stop being douchebags.
People like this deliberately decide to be douchebags, because they enjoy to be like this, to treat other people bad, and get satisfaction out of this. It’s like food to them.
Better than hoping they would change because of a well-intentioned moral lesson, would be to round them up and isolate them somewhere.
That is something that should be outlawed, that people like this are allowed to run around freely among normal people.

It’s a college kid that got assigned to review the movie. Chances are “back in the day” he was one of the usual asses shitting on the show/fandom on youtube back when that was all the rage. Likely still does got a chubby when he realized he could move from YT comments to college paper.
Also, probably more people from here have read it than the publication’s intended audience…
