My wife observed that the implication of all this points out a big part of Equestria’s problem: they may be all about that dank Friendship up in their own borders, but externally, the institutional lack of paying attention to the world around them has kicked Equestria up the rump several times now. They had an ally who they expected to come to their aid during a surprise invasion party, but had no clue that ally had already been defeated and sent underwater by the party crasher? It’s Griffonstone and the Dragonlands all over again, except this time the nuts are already in the fire; the Human world equivalent would be if America in 1917 or 1940 hadn’t even been aware Europe was having a war.

Considering the Hippogriffs being nothing to write about (all they had was transformation magic and the queen chose to run away from the Storm King), I’m willing to bet Princess Celestia DID mean for them to seek out the Queen of the Hippos.

I was kind of surprised to see people groaning about the Hungry Hungry Hippos joke, but it seems the Easy-Bake joke went over everybody’s head, either that, or it was just better implemented.

At the theater where I saw The Movie the first time, one of the five-sixish kids shouted out “LOOK, IT’S THE REAL QUEEN OF THE HIPPOS!” and I’m pretty sure I just died on the spot and am a ghost now.

Talk about a brick joke!

Yeah and there were 2 more hasbro references Pinkies cannon is easy-bake, and grubbers speaker had the transformers sound. And that’s the 2nd time they done that joke since the 1st equestria girls film!

nooot all of them are silly flavor text. there was that moment where celestia and novo greet each other…. that was a suspicious little bit of connection.  
ponies are forgiving enough to let whatever storm beasts that ended up left behind, well, join the party. rest probably scattered with the leader.

This was a nice little touch.
