I believe the important part is the fact that they literally phrased it “Friendship is magic”. Especially considering that FiM predates almost the entirety of Zexal.

Funny on how the reason it was done in the episode was just to tell somebody watching the duel to shut up…

Depends, does telling them about friendship while floating in midair count? Then again, each Yu-Gi-Oh! spinoff is guilty of a friendship moment and also being capable of tearing friendship apart.

Usually they call it the “Heart of the Cards” in 4kids. Presumably that is just a liberty the translator took, especially if this is from a fansub.
