I JUST GOT A THOUGHT.  
What if:  
When a pony is born for hte first time, it is all small and chubby. Then they give it a wash, and it goes all fluffy. Then the fluff is trimmed off, and they are put into the cots in the hospital, like was saw in the baby-sitting episode, hence where Fluffy-Ponies and Chubbies came from! :O
