You are right, they are just some original character who was originally intended to be a one time character. It is in their wiki or their Deviant Art, I don’t remember which one. They give a lot of details about this stuff.
It’s a running gag in the Adorkable series where all the OC have human names.
I think he’s just an OC, and not a self-insert.
Invalid interpretations don’t count.
I suppose it is a joke in this series. I mean, look at all of the stereotypical names already present in the mlp-verse. A normal human sounding name would not only shake things up, but it would be surprisingly hilarious when a pony name could have been used. A pony with a helicopter mark could have been named Wind Chopper, but here he might be Dave. Engage awkward moment when Twilight starts to catch onto this phenomenon, and can’t explain it away.

Well, no, at his worst he’s a gibbering insensitive idiot who either has no sense of social mores, at his VERY worst interpretation, actively hates Twilight.
I’m guessing it’s the dull thing. I don’t really mind Greg, but compared to pretty much everyone else in the comic he is kind of boring.
Why? He’s harmless and dull at worst, and he’s the romantic interest that Twi needs in this series.
Don’t mind her being happy, just dont like greg much.
The rest of us prefer Twi to be happy, thank you very much.
