I think after she told him she was okay with it and she’ll like whatever he likes he just assumes everything was fine, but i agree he seems to turned blind afterwards, hes main character trait is being oblivious

Admittedly he did notice a bit early on, even said he thought Starlight was pretending to be interested and trying to reassure her that she didn’t have to do that. Unfortunately Starlight kept denying it.

He had to wait for her to run away crying before he noticed. He probably understates how she felt when he went away for magic school when they were foals. Let’s see what future episodes have in store for Starlight and Sunburst’s relationship. Assuming the series doesn’t end in season 8.
