I work shoreside, but yeah, onboard the crew work a contract for a few months, seven days a week. Then you get all your weekends all at once, later, as a break between contracts.
As for passengers, it depends on the ship. If the ship is as small as the zeppelin in this episode, then yeah, you really need good destinations and entertainment. If you’re on a megaship, you’ll not have enough time for all the activities onboard. There are ships large enough to have an ice-rink, an outdoor amphitheater, surfing simulator, skydiving simulator, and on and on.
Pretty much all of the US-based ships are Panama- or Bahamas-flagged, so (due to an old law, the PVSA) they have to visit a foreign port. No cruises to nowhere. So, there will be two to six port calls on a typical cruise.
Side-note: I was a little disappointed that a competitor got the Hasbro licensing deal.
I can’t imagine what working on a cruise ship is like… From everything I’ve heard from friends and family, taking a cruise is the most boring thing imaginable (it’s basically spending a few days in a hotel, but you can’t leave)
What a shame. I hate how scammers won’t stop getting through to people on the phone, myself included…
I work for a legitimate cruise line, and I hear things like this from callers from time to time. They “won” a cruise and can’t seem to get in contact with the company that took their payment for a “free” cruise. I have to explain how the name of the company is similar to ours but not connected to us. So, in the first scene this episode my “Cruise Scam” flag got raised.
DON’T TAKE PAID VACATIONS FROM STRANGERS!!
