Gangsta rap never really had an impact on where I grew up (rural New Zealand), thus my only exposure to rap was akin to Run DMC. Touché about the age thing, as you’re a year older than me.
If you know anything about hip hop culture, you’d know the 90s was the era of gangster rap. Run DMC had most of their hey day in the 80s.
But to answer your question, I am a nineties kid. I was born in 86
I grew up in the nineties and I still think this was atrocious.
