I won’t get into detail here, but I’ll just say that in my headcanon Ember and Garble are around 60 - 80 pony years and they’re just reaching adulthood. If you’re curious about why I think so, I’ll gladly explain on PM.
 
About the dog Spike alternative, for me that makes this whole issue a bestial relationship and that’s just a big NO for me. Again just an opinion, if you’re ok with that, technically you have a valid point.

I don’t think the age gap is that big. Say Spike’s 12 and Rarity is 22, 10 years isn’t bad at all. You make it sound as if by the time he turns 18, she’ll be pushing 70. Even if Spike ages slowly, the number itself would still be by pony years as Spike’s an Equestrian by birth. Of course, Spike could just go to the human world for a year or two to speed up his growth via dog aging.

My aim was at Spike becoming adult when Rarity would be an old mare (probably Granny Smith old) but since that is only my headcanon on dragon slow aging, I stopped arguing.
 
I don’t hold the truth, but I still believe Sparity is a cute childish crush and a crappy ship that has little to none to grab my interest. A mere opinion.

Except the writers will not let it happen so……
 
It’s not a matter of age, whether she likes someone other than him or what ever. It’s just the writers never REALLY have shown an indication that this will happen cause relationships that are not necessary for the canon don’t tend to happen. These would be like Shining Armor and Cadence or AJ’s parents. The only time this rule gets broken is in Equestria Girls with Twilight and Flash as well as Sci-Twi and Timber. Those however are more cause “It’s a teenage movie thing” and that’s about it. Rarity has her crushes and Spike has his on Rarity but apart from Secret of my Excess and maybe Inspiration Manifestation there hasn’t been any real improvement of their relationship beyond what it is now, that of a love struck kid willing to do anything and a girl accepting his help but not really sharing them (and being a tease to get her way at times). Oh she clearly knows he loves her but she clearly doesn’t share these feelings for her own reasons. That IS NOT TO SAY it is impossible, but it would require the writers to actually make it happen. Maybe like a peak into a potential future or something but the way they write these characters and their relationships with each other, it’s unlikely to EVER happen outside of fanfiction. Sadly

And to your idea of lifecycles and lifespan, I point you to two series Highlander and Doctor Who.
 
And before you ask, when I referring to Doctor Who, I wasn’t referring to its lead being over 900 years older than most of the other characters; relationship or not, but more or less several from that series that were in relationships very similar to Sparity and it still working out somewhat fine, if not a little bittersweet sad.

Yeah I used to do some Sweetie Bot edits from existing Sweetie Belle images, I put it together with an actual image of a cutiemark and a chozo artifact, I recolored it to have the same colours of the CMC cutiemark and then just pasted it together. I meant to use it as Sweetie Bot’s cutiemark but never got around to do it.

Different species is like international races and there alot on international married couples. Talk about lifespan it the same for us wife can outlive the husband and husband can outlive the wife.

My parents are only 2 years apart but my grandpa was 14 years older than my grandma, of course those were different times and they were from the countryside.

My parents have 8 between them. Large age gaps certainly are more common than people think. There’s certainly more stigma when the woman is the older party but that shouldn’t deter anyone from being intimidated out of being happy.

Well, the species difference would still be its own hurdle, but as far as the age gap goes, this is a pretty sound argument. I know couples in real life that have 10+ year age gaps.

Besides, barring the species difference, there really isn’t anything physiological that would keep the two apart; it’s just a matter of what they actually feel for each other. And this is coming from a guy who’s doesn’t have any interest whatsoever in shipping.

In Sweetie Belle’s flashback to her fifth birthday she was much smaller than her current self. I think the Cutie Mark Crusaders and the flashback Mane Six in “Cutie Mark Chronicles” are supposed to be well past kindergarten.
