You make a good point too Slav. I think the reason they wouldn’t do that (or stopped doing it) is because that would pretty much mean they would just be used like something disposable. I doubt they’re without pride or dignity, and the attack on Canterlot may very well have been a role-reversal/“How do you like it.” sort of deal. If we’re going off “using their shapeshifting to get love from people” scenario.

plus they can be anypony you want, how they haven’t managed to exploit this to ridiculous lengths is just weird. Mebbe they used to but Celestia found out and banished them and they for whatever reason thought all ponies had memories as long as hers?

We have no idea how bad their situation actually is, though. For all we know, Changelings are perfectly capable of getting all they need from frontier settlements on the fringe of Equestria, and just recently decided to move up int the world. It’s not desperation, it’s greed.

And to respond to Impious. (again) It’s not so much her I feel pity for as much as it’s her subjects. That and the nature of their situation entirely.

Why she can’t just feed off of the love of her subjects to her, I don’t get. But I think Sombra was way more dedicated in just mindlessly enslaving an empire because of his own obsession with crystals.
 
But yeah, there is a lot of that surrounding her.

I still like Chrysalis, but it’s like I can’t find any art or fiction that does her villainy justice anymore. It’s all a big pity party, or her being cute. She’s a filthy, rotting monster, with deep ambition and no compassion.
 
If you like her for who she really is, read “Changeling” on Fimfiction. It is a big, violent, sloppy gangbang mindrape, and the ending rips and tears at one’s balls like a feral dog. It’s a masterpiece of dark fiction.

I still maintain that for what he was, he was miles above Chrysalis. Then again, the fandom’s woobie love for her really killed her for me.
