It’s because humans and wolves were both persistence hunters and often targeted the same prey so we frequently worked together on hunts and shared in the rewards.

I would argue that elephants, dolphins, killer whales and higher-order primates are also capable of such abstract conceptual thinking, but that’s beyond the scope of this comment section.
We’re the only species that even has a concept of it and strives for it though :D

Nah, to quote a buddy of mine, of all the species dogs could have chosen as their companions, they chose humans. That alone is proof of how special and pure humans really are at heart :P
And some think that they have both, when, in reality, they’re little more than babbling imbeciles.
But you can’t choose your family, can you?
Humans have great intelligence, but they do not have great wisdom.
All things considered we’re pretty smart I think. :P
Except humans. We’re dumb in every way.
I don’t think you can really compare the intelligence of most animals because they’re all smart or dumb in different ways, y’know? :P
I really wish we (and by we, I mean humans) could get a reading on just how intelligent cats are. Because of their standoffish and uncooperative nature, they can’t really learn “tricks” nor do they follow commands, so the jury is still out, I feel. Dogs at least listen to you, so we can kind of gauge how bright various breeds of them are. But cats? They’re this big mystery, and something tells me they prefer it that way.

I think most cats are smart enough to know where the dot is coming from but just like chasing it. My cat knew the sound of the button and would come running, and she’d watch the pointer in my hand until I turned it on, and then frantically look for the dot XD
