This section of the famous Mount Panorama track was made most known after the freak accident that was the rock incident.
During the 1980 Hardie Ferodo 1000, Queensland driver Dick Johnson was leading the field as he was making his way up the hill to Reid Park, when he spotted a rock of all things on the track.
With the rock ahead of him, a wall to his right, and a tow truck, bringing a previously damaged car back to the pits to his left, Dick hit the rock, and broke his steering, sending into the left hand wall.
The crash nearly ruined his career, before it barely began, but fans donated money to Dick, and in 1981, not only won the ATCC championship, but won the 1981 Bathurst 1000.
