As a crystal pony, Tony has different looks wether he feel happy or sad. Since he’s only half crystal pony, most of the time he looks like in this drawing. Only when he’s sad he changes his appereance, his color palette loses saturation and luminosity. The contrary effect happens once he’s on the Crystal Empire.
