I usually don’t take comics into account, too much stuff’s been contradicted already. Still, I don’t remember how it was shown in the comic, but it was likely just a cameo, right? Twilight probably wouldn’t have remembered or even known anyway.

Trixie is comic only at this time and has her as actually a student at Celestia’s school for gifted unicorns the same time as Twilight was but maybe in a older group from the looks of it.

The Trixie situation is weird, isn’t it? Could be because she was the very first. Twilight gets more forgiving with each one chronologically, and each unicorn gets… well, I won’t say more evil because I don’t think Starlight was ever evil, but their crimes against Equestria get bigger and bigger with each one. Back in the day Twilight still shat on Susnet with “today you’ve shown everyone who you truly are” before actually giving her a chance, and with Tempest she straight up proclaimed to be her friend at the earliest convenience.

Maybe it’s also because their backstories get progressively more substantial. Trixie has none, Sunset was a student of Celestia which really doesn’t say anything but at least Twilight can relate, Starlight sank into her beliefs due to an unfortunate, if mild, childhood event, and Tempest was physically traumatized for life.

Yes I agree their especially given the spells she is shown to have. Not talking makes you talk, brain washing both her and sunset shimmer have used that.

Of the four reformed unicorns trouble markers Tempest, Sunset, Starlight, and Trixie. Is it sad that Trixie has done lest wrong and gets the most blowback even Twilight didn’t trust her.

Right, many people today, especially those who haven’t lived under communism and haven’t seen or talked to anyone who did really have a limited grasp of what it is, and it’s either really idealized or overly demonized, depending on the political leaning of the person (measured by american standards). Though the people you are talking about, I believe, don’t associate all of their ideas about equality with communism, they just add them on top of what communism would’ve been in their minds.

Either way, from the modern point of view, if you measure it purely by principle and not implementation (basically adjusting for the fact that Starlight didn’t shoot all dissenters), Starlight’s regime seems much more oppressive and sinister than communism. Heck, communism on the scale of a small remote village like hers could’ve been downright pleasant.

And I say this as a huge fan of her character.

Yeah now we got the new socialist running around saying all people are equal, all cultures are good and sex has no meaning. The only difference is the equality the socialist want is based on skin color and life stile choices, not economic, and they where black instead of red. Witch pisses me off most as half my clothes are black. Oh well least hope next riot they start the government say enough is enough and rolls in the national guard to round up the rich brats larping as revolutionaries.

Socialism/communism is pretty different from her ideology, actually. Starlight is all about the equality of personality and skills, while communism was largely about economic and social equality, in its own way. Exceptionally skilled and overperforming individuals, great artists, scientists, sportsmen and workers were celebrated under communism - if nothing else, because they were useful for the cause. Of course, there were all kinds of bad things happening, especially to people who opposed the ideology, but at its core it’s not about suppressing your skills or personality, never was.

(You could say it’s the same kind of ideology, but applied to a different aspect of life, but that would be way too vague, because then you could say that, for example, having laws and a police force is also the same as communism because it enforces - or pretends to - equality, in this case equality of rights before the law and such.)

Of course, the feasibility of a working communist society on a scale bigger than a village is pretty slim, so it failed spectacularly.

I thought the two “your best” were meant to mean different things in this phrase. The first “your best” is your best according to what Starlight believed would be everyone’s best: not one-upping anyone or introducing any dissent whatsoever into society. The second “your best” is your best according to the rest of Equestria, which Starlight thought was wrong: actually excelling at a skill. It’s like, throw away your old understanding of what is good and what’s not and accept our understanding.

At least that’s how I immediately interpreted this phrase. It’s the only way it makes sense to me, and goes perfectly in line with Starlight’s old ideology.

Plus , it’s a contradictory statement and a logical fallacy . You can not be your best by not trying to be your best . You either do your best , or you do not . There is no middle ground and there is no compromise on something like this .

Noone ever really thinks of their own actions as evil unless they are a total cliche.

Starlight wasn’t trying to be a villain. She was deluded, and trying to enforce a doctrine that to her mind would make everypony happy. Then she was thwarted, and driven to revenge. At no time was she just doing evil for it’s own sake.

To be fair, Starlight had a cult mindset

Thank of rl, like Jehovah Witness. They believe that you must serve Jehovah and never do anything else, like get a higher education or good job. Cause that means you are not paying attention to Jehovah and he is against everything that isn’t focus on him.

Starlight basically did that, but without a good and made the ponies brainwash to be nothing
