Technically speaking, you’re correct, but the “quasi-romance” that they had, if you would call it that, still hurt (Princess) Twilight’s characterization, and while there’s really nothing keeping Flash from becoming a more interesting character, the writers have so far showed borderline no intention of doing so, adding only a few quirks at best, but never quite allowing him to break free from the “goody-two-shoes nice guy with bad-boys look” model that they’ve locked him in, so I have little hope of him ever growing enough as a character to be anything more than a bland love interest.

Here praying that you’re right. Truth be told, I’ve got little hope for it, since between these bad romances and Starlight Glimmer’s whole character, it feels like the writers (or whoever is pushing their hand) are a bit too prideful like to say “well, we fucked this one up, maybe we should abort this plot line and move to another one as soon as possible”, and instead will keep us stuck with elements that were largely disliked by the fandom even in spite of that.

Flash and Twilgiht technically never got together and I could see him developing into an interesting character  
As for Timber, I’ll agree with you on him. I do feel like his romance is only temporary, just some relationship experience until Twilight finds who she really belongs with (eg. Richard or Emily from FRIENDS)
