Yep, because someone screwed up enough won’t find another way to kill a whole bunch of people because they can’t walk into a store to legally purchase a gun to do it with.
 
Because a psychopath with a grudge totally won’t think to rent a van, load it with homemade explosives (the components of which can be bought legally at hardware and gardening stores), drive to school, run a bunch of people over, crash the van into the school and detonate the explosives.
 
These people are going for the high score. Banning the legal ownership of guns won’t stop them. There’s been more people shot with handguns in the city of Toronto since they banned owning them in city limits than at any time prior, and that’s in Canada where gun control is already strict.
 
If someone is going to break the law (mass murder is definitely illegal) they really aren’t going to care if owning a gun is illegal. They only need to obtain one, and getting one with the serial numbers filed off is alarmingly easy if you know where to look.
