I think its a reverence to a story with Donald Duck. Here in germany we have something called “Lustiges Taschenbuch” those have some comics with Donald, Micky and co in it. The first story i ever read was about Donald working in a Flower Park. He took care of a rar flower. Donald used a special and strong potion to make that plant grow, but after a day, the Plant started to talk and want more and more. It demended for food, just like in the picture, the plant even look like that one xD
Later it got so big it wants to eat people and Donald hat to stop this plant somehow

Makes me think of the Fic “Three More things” in which Applebloom as a pet of that exact plant, and names is Audrey
