@Bexar Bandito
As far as MLP goes, LaMarche has special privilege over most of the others because he has Canadian citizenship and has done at least one Vancouver production before (Sonic Underground). The others don’t have a prayer since they’re neither Canadian nor do they have any presence outside of voice-acting; Hamill’s only claim to fame as far as Hollywood is concerned is Star Wars. He’s a nobody otherwise.
Now I cannot
i’m walking about voice actors specifically as opposed to actors mostly known for on-camera talent. ever since the 50s there’s been an entire sector of the industry devoted solely to voice acting and it’s basically become a culture all of its own within hollywood, with a-list stars all of its own such as frank welker, jim cummings, tara strong, john dimaggio, rob paulsen, maurice lamarche, et al. because on-camera acting and voice acting are two entirely different disciplines that require entirely different training, it’s very rare to find an example of someone who qualifies as a famous on-camera actor AND a famous voice actor - the only example i can think of offhand is mark hamill (who should TOTALLY guest star on mlp at some point.)
so far, all of the show’s guest stars have been either on-camera actors (e.g. john de lancie, william shatner, felicia day, patton oswalt, amanda bloom), musicians (weird al yankovic), and theatre actors (lena hall). to my knowledge, lamarche is the show’s first guest star who specializes in voice acting.
Edited
The difference is that LaMarche is a VA Legend among the ranks of Mel Blanc, Frank Welker and Jim Cummings.
Shatner is good but he’s not a true VA just a guest actor, so getting one of the biggest guns in the VA community is a feat.
Shatner was a big name as well,no?.I mean,i konw he’s Canadian but he did the original Star Trek
