It’s art for the fanfic. In this fanfic Celestia was shown in all its glory. Which Celestia should be, and not what hasbro fuckers show to us.  
According to the story Celestia completely controlled the situation and knew who was next to her. But still she was kind to her and helped Chrysalis to fulfill her task.

And of course, Celestia is glueless, helpless and useless. She won’t even realize when her love is gone.
 
Why did DHX made her so bad? Why must this picture be so realistic? It’s a real dealbreaker for me.

When the time to elect a new queen comes for the Changeling Kingdom, young Chrysalis becomes one of the main candidates. But to succeed and claim the throne, Chrysalis needs to pass an exam - penetrate into the very heart of Canterlot under the disguise of little Twilight Sparkle and literally steal the crown of princess Celestia herself.

I’m of the opinion that the black pawn represents Twilight.  
Also note the shadows. The white queen’s shadow is aligned in such a way that it looks like it extends from the black pawn, which would likely foreshadow a royal destiny (which we know is accurate from “future” episodes).

My Little Pony - 1992 Edition

The chess pieces tell an interesting story here. The White Queen is obviously Celestia, and the knocked-over Black Queen the defeated Nightmare Moon. Note that the Black Pawn is standing in the shadow of the White Queen, though. Is that supposed to represent Princess Luna before she turned into Nightmare Moon, or is it supposed to be Twilight Sparkle, implying that she is in the same place Luna was before she turned to evil?
