Good catch. Judging by AJ’s expression, I’d wager she has a fairly good idea of what they’ll find in the village. Twilight’s gotten to used to pulling out a victory from her ass to actually have a battle plan if things go south.

i gotta say that of all the characters’ expressions here, AJ’s is the most interesting (despite it being cutoff somewhat).  
The others’ make sense, rarity is worried about her mane and such, fluttershy is scared of what will happen (naturally), pinkie and dash are both just ready for action and will charge in, and twilight is simply determined to find a better resolution. AJ, however, is none of these. she seems more worried than anything else. in fact, her focus is on twilight. sometimes i wish we could hear the thoughts of characters in the midst of a crisis, and i imagine AJ is simply saying in her mind, “twi? do y’all even have a plan”.

Actually, I sort of hope that’s exactly what happens. Twilight showing up to just find her already dead wouldn’t drive home the lesson that military actions are sometimes really necessary, and butting in doesn’t help.
 
Plus, Silfoe has said it was Twilight’s idea to personally adopt Pterus. Atoning for her role in Vulpa’s fate would really make a nice lead-in for that.

I can imagine some gruff veterinarian solder stallion (or mare), having to tell Twilight to stick to her job as a princess of reforming sad little creatures of their world end friendship problems. While they leave them to handle the “monsters” you can’t blast good with a magic rainbow.

I just hope Twilight and gang aren’t what directly lead to Vulpa’s fate… Twilight causing a fatal distraction would be harsh, she’d never forgive herself

Really hoping Twilight gets slapped with some brutal reality here. Any sort of resolution going towards “See, Twi was right!” would be criminal.

“Oh no, the guards are trying to do their job and protect people! Won’t anyone stop them!”
