Could it be that the alicorn amulet was the thing that corrupted Sombra? If it could change Trixie then it’s no small possibility that Sombra used it. For example, Sombra could have been a normal Unicorn like the rest but then in order to defeat a new mysterious menace in Equestria, he forged it with his own soul…but that also meant that Sombra would have been taken over by the dark power inside of it when extreme emotions occur (like the death of his family, friends, etc) so overtime he became the dark menace we know all known to fear
