Description

A giant Queen Chrysalis in Minecraft!

Original image: fav.me/d4xdlvz

This was made completely by hand, I only used SPC and TMI.
Made in Minecraft version 1.7.3 for various reasons.

Yes, it’s finally here, and I’m pretty damn proud of it! In fact, I consider this to be my best work so far (sorry Celestia. No wait, put that cannon down)!

I know it’s kinda late to say this, but I loved the season 2 finale. Everything was just perfect; the story, the characters, the songs, and the list goes on.

But enough about that, here’s some random facts about this one:
-I made her wings transparent by re-texturing ice blocks. Ice blocks are one of the few block types that allow partial transparency in Minecraft.
-The size is about 440x490 blocks
  • I almost had to re-texture every single block in Minecraft, including pistons, TNT, gravel and pumpkins.

Hope you enjoy, check out my gallery if you do, and don’t forget to tell me what you think! Thanks!

well the tiny resolution doesn’t really help.

should’ve used Optifine to increase the screenshot resolution, so details like blocks are more visible. i use that too to get 4k Screenshots where you can see more detail, even tho the game runs on a Full HD Screen

how do people even live without Optifine… must be horrible

True enough, but if you built on the ground on a superflat world with the clouds on, the clouds would obscure large parts of the pixel art unless you built it above the cloud level, defeating the purpose of building in a superflat world.

You could leave the clouds off, yes, but at scales like this you’re so far above ground that you don’t see the individual blocks anymore, just the shapes and colors the blocks make. More importantly, you can tell block from block where one casts a shadow or two different types of block are next to each other. Take this image – I can easily see where the sand borders the water, but if I look at a large patch of sand I can’t tell where one sand block ends and an adjoining sand block begins. Same with the grass, snow, water – contrast makes for easy visibility, while uniformity makes for difficult judgments of scale and shape. In an uniform, green superflat world you wouldn’t have any of these aids.

It’s already difficult enough to tell where one grass block ends and another begins at ground level unless the crosshairs are over one and the block’s edges are highlighted – high up like in this image it’d be impossible.

I’d assume that a superflat map wouldn’t get the sense of scale across very well. It’s a bit hard to get that sort of thing across when the map is just a uniform green no matter how zoomed in you are, but the presence of trees, rivers and such helps grasp the size of the build better.

i mean it is impressive but why not just a superflat map?

takes far less work to just place it on the ground instead of having to put it in the air above trees and shit
