Description

Some WiPs of a new Sunflower being chalked up between work on a big ol’ charity comm. Lots of details in that one - city scene.
I’m slowly starting to realize what it’s like to have an OC though. As we were streaming we got to shooting stats and deepest lore around and it was awesome and it was fun. Here’s some of them now right after the break:
-The Specialist stands 79′ 3″ tall, sans horn, and 86′ 1″ in total. She’s a big girl and is very proud of that one inch. Makes a ton of difference. This assumes the average mare stands 3′ 8″.
  • Speaking of tons, she weighs around 17,000lb., or 7.70 tons without armor. Good thing ponies are very marshmallow-like no matter the size.
  • Her rumps’s about as large as a small house and a pair of those sensational, ultra-fashionable underpants requires nearly 2.5 acres (1,150lb.) of cotton to manufacture.
    • Although the garment serves no practical purpose, no respectable mare would dare be without the latest trend - let alone in Canterlot. The Guard pays decently but with sponsorships the Specialist can remain on the razor’s edge of high-fashion.
Thanks to Higher in particular for the nerd-math. This stuff is pure dumb fun to make up, I love it. It’s the little things between workdays.

The amusing thing for me to think about is the durability of that underwear. It has to be strong enough to withstand the chafing of the metal armor, not to mention just the normal wear and tear and stretching of just moving around. I would imagine that just the thickness of the cotton alone would be equivalent protection to the standard metal armor that a guard would normally wear. Or at least something more on the order of Kevlar where the fabric is both strong and stretchy.

I would imagine it’s strong enough to repel a thrown spear. It seems to keep the splinters from the carts she sits on from sticking to her at least.

@NCMares
Well, if we use your numbers, she’s 951 inches tall (no horn) and the average mare is 44 inches. That makes her (951 / 44) ~ 21.6 times as tall. Now as for weight, I pretty much gonna have to pull a number out my ass, so I’m going to say the avarage mare weighs 85 pounds. At that average, if she is of avarage build than here weight would be ((21.6 ^ 3) * 85) ~856,600 pounds or ~428.3 tons. (horn not included) I.e. she real heavy.

Irrelevant side note: this probably constitutes the “mathatics in the comments” tag.

I do not have a set size on Altus but this is the closes things I do have is between these two images.

I do have older art of Altus that is not on derpi such as This but I think it would not be a good way to give a sense of scale.

Also Thank you for letting me know about other sizes.

Also I hate to ask but I am planning on doing a massive size chart with a ton of different fan characters but is there already pre-determine height of other giant characters?

Sequoia is mentioned below. Cumulonimbus is a bit shorter. Altus Bastion seems to be in a similar range but I don’t know. Wouldn’t know about Soft Melody, City Sweep or Nova Starburst (if the latter even counts). Sassy Lost (my own OC) is the pony version of ten feet, so based on your headcanon size she’d be roughly the height of a human door (210cm IIRC), a human or anthro Sassy Lost would be ten feet.

Okay, Why are you all debating over how big or how heavy she is if this is just A Fan Made Art Piece

My view on pony size is that Blackjack is an average mare and standing erect at a slight forward lean of about 2 degrees would be about as tall as me, or around 183cm/6’. How much would she weigh? And would that still be pony size at the withers in a pony stance?

@Torzar
If a creature is X times taller, the weight increases by X³ times.

That’s why it’s called the Square-Cube Law.

Just saying this first and foremost, Thank you kindly for clearing up the weight issue. When it comes to weight I do have a hard time with doing calculations on such things but I tried my hardest. Again thank you.

How i got her Height was based off other various information pools provided by other sources on the question of how tall is ponies in mlp such as this scoure and this one also looking at other images that give a sense of scale and my average that I got were as follows.

Average Mare: 3 Feet 8 Inches

Average Stallion: 4 Feet

Luna (with horn) 6 Feet

Celestia (with horn) 7 Feet 10 Inches

From here I scaled upwards. Sorry if my math isn’t perfect.

Also I hate to ask but I am planning on doing a massive size chart with a ton of different fan characters but is there already pre-determine height of other giant characters?

Thank you for reading this.

Yeah I made stupid mistake XD I should’ve paid more attention to math stuff when I was in school lol

When height goes double, you get eight times the weight, not three time, since it’s eight times the volume.
If a creature is X times taller, the weight increases by X³ times.

@NCMares
There’s nothing to be sorry for, really. People get that kind of thing wrong all the time.
As for weight, it all depends on how your view on the weight of normal ponies is.
First thing you need to do is to find out how many times bigger the large pony is than a normal pony.
Taking the height values you gave, you’d need to divide the big mare’s height of 79’3” (79.25 feet) by the average mare’s 3’8” (3.66 feet).
79.25 ÷ 3.66 = 21.6
Now you need to cube that number to get the multiplier for weight and volume. 21.6³ is about 10,000, so this mare should be in the ballpark of 10,000 times as heavy as you’d consider a good weight for a normal mare.
So if an average mare weighed as much as a 50 kg/110 lbs (estimating from the weight of a dog of such size), you’d have a mare that weighs 500 tons or 1,100,000 lbs. And since she’s a soldier pony, I’d assume she’s above average in weight. (Don’t tell her I said that, though ;) )
Background Pony #0634
Yeah. An M1A1 Tank for example is much smaller than she is yet weighs nearly 70 tons.

@NCMares
Every time when the subject’s height goes double, its mass should be tripled. Keep doing that and you will get the result :)

I really love your work. Keep up the good thing! XD
