Far from it, like I think pulling that made Ken Penders the Anish Kapoor of the comic world and that 99% of comic artists are better than he is. Just that it set a precedence behaviorally and legally. Not only do people working on shows that have tie-in comics now know that sort of stuff can happen, but if it did now someone pulling that crap could actually cite Penders Vs Sonic in court to show that he actually had a case. Basically the show has every reason, both logically and legally, to not touch anything “created” by the comics with a 50 foot pole, especially since a couple of the IDW artists/writers are kind of sketchy shady folks. In fact, I presume that every single thing that appeared in the comics first and the show later was actually created by Hasbro and given to them to be introduced :P

The guy tried suing Sega for the ownership of Knuckles, for crying out loud.

According to the interview with Jim Miller they paid no attention to anything that was established in the comics. I don’t know if that was by choice or a legal obligation or what (He just said “Hasbro ran that”). Possibly both, which is pretty understandable if you ever read about Ken Penders and Sonic; long story short he actually managed to sue Sega over Sonic for copyright infringement D:
