Personally, Yona comes at a close second.
I’m aware that Gallus is a Griffon. I was just making a guess as to why he got so low on the list as well.

Gallus is an Earth Pony. They tend to be pretty low in these kind of polls.
Spike is a main character, unless the polls says he’s an outright disliked character of course he would be popular.
I’m glad others think Silverstream is most appealing visually. Yona is quite adorable too, but her personality is odd. cute, but very odd haha :)
Silverstream is top for me also because her demeanor reminds me of Pinkie Pie and I really love that about her

I can’t speak for everyone but if I were to pick them based on visual appeal, I’d have Gallus at third (with Silverstream at first and Yona second). But as far as personality goes, I’d probably put him in second (with Occellus being first).

Exactly Silverstream is top 2 because she’s the most appealing visually, Ocellus simply because as a changeling he could be the most appealing to any one.

Even the most popular male characters will always be miles behind in popularity compared to the females, even if the only difference is gender.
I wonder if Spike is in or ex. It won’t change my opinion about him anyway, he’s still my favorite male character in MLP.
