That’s what I gathered from the ending too, I wish that could’ve been made more clear but overall I liked the ending. I can gather how Stygian must’ve been frustrated with his situation, knowing he had done hero work once but was never able to do it again.
I can imagine over time the Pillars notice that he’s getting even more obsessed with the idea of being a hero, and when they find him with their artifacts they think he’d finally gone off the deep end
At the start of the comic, Stygian was already getting kind of jealous of the attention that Starswirl received. By the end of the comic, he managed to be the hero for once in his life.
Remember what he said when he exited the mirror? “I’d do anything to do it again.” This incident gave Stygian the first taste of what it was like to be a hero. And chances are, after this incident, he just went back to being a boring old scholar, wishing more than ever for another chance to play the hero.
He probably found some way to contact the shadows again, and likely hd a piece of this PoS already inside of him whispering into his proverbial ear. This resulted in the finale backstory, and perhaps even Nightmare Moon.
Really, I’d like have more about Stygian, who is getting the shaft here by having the Legands end here, as the only next timeline point we know is that suddenly he’s taking all the Pillars’ objects to try to create his own power, and there’s probably a good reason for that, but we’re not getting it now, it seems.
Yeah, that be the biggest problem. By itself the comic is great, but for the whole LoM series its quite a piss poor conclusion to things.
Well, we did have a few panels that show Stygian peeved that Star Swirl would likely take all the credit for the work the Pillars did, and Rockhoof giving him some helpful words of advice that he might be wrong.
But I feel we really should have another chapter here, just to show Stygian become more discontent with SS’s lead, even if the other pillars try to talk him down.
That’s a crying shame. Don’t get me wrong, I like that he’s doing that, but it also makes Stygian look even more ungrateful and petty.
@dynamicv
After that, no wonder. Stealing from him just got even more personal if Rockhoof was trying so hard.
@soundtea
Aye. I honestly like this comic overall. But it makes what already didn’t work well in the finale work even less.
I don’t think you get the actual problem here. Going by the insanely good note this story ends on it only makes that gap between this and betrayal all the more nonsensical. And at this point going by solicitations we will never get that gap ever filled.
Edited
Remember that ALL the pillars agreed to kick out Stygian, including Rockhoof.
big gap that we are likely never going to fill in at this point.
