Personally, I hope for a happy reunion between Trixie and her dad, But if we get something a little darker instead, I hope we get a moment like this between Trixie and Starlight…

Call me overly-analytical, but this not only tells a story, but also explains why Trixie is the way she is. Call it the psychologist in me (which I am, btw).

From my understanding, her parents are seperated, whether it is due to divorce, because he’s too busy/prideful to stay in Las Pegasus despite being a has-been or as Big Jim said, he might not even know he had a daughter as he had a one-night stand with her mother back when he was at the peak of his popularity.

Once her parents went their seperate ways, she stayed and was raised by a single mother who lavished her with affection and even sent her to Celestia’s School for Gifted Unicorns. Here is the start of Trixie’s egotistical behavior since, as said earlier, she was raised by a single parent who catered to her every whim and that made her very prideful. I wouldn’t be surprised if these outbursts of ego eventually became the cornerstone of her third-person speech patterns and calling herself “Great & Powerful”.

However, her unknown father’s influence was felt when she wasn’t good at most magic unicorns were known to have and ironically took interest towards stage magic and illusions. I can only imagine that seeing her daughter take up the craft which her one-time fling that abandoned them was too much for her mother to bear. This could have ended up either having the mother die of shock or disowning her. Whichever it was, Trixie was on her own. She got by with her magic shows and tall tales to make herself seem more important and powerful than what she really is.

That is, of course, until she arrived at Ponyville when a new librarian/former student of Celestia came to town and the rest is history.

Call me making my own fanon but I believe that she never met her father and it would be…interesting to see what would happen if they ever in fact meet. Would it be emotionally endearing or will her pride caused her to strike out and further alienate them? That, of course, depends on writers.

Big Jim says he might not know he has a daughter. Would a child admire a parent that won’t care about her? Not even on her first day at school.
