- According to Faust, Hasbro originally wanted Spike to sound much different than the Cathy Weseluck voice we all know and love. Their idea was to have his speech be more baby-like, and… sound kinda like this
- According to the DVD commentary of Legend of Everfree, there was some debate as to how non-Canterlot-High people would/should respond to a talking dog. Ultimately they decided to have him conveniently never speak to those individuals.
- As the rumor goes, due to some copyright/trademark/whatever legal shenanigans, Spike was one of the only original MLP characters Hasbro could use for the Friendship is Magic reboot. The other was Applejack
- Spike has a crush on Rarity. Okay, everybody knows that one. But did you know that wasn’t planned? In the first episode, Spike is taken aback by Rarity’s dazzling good looks. This scene was only supposed to inform the audience that Rarity is the Equestrian standard of beauty, but the writers latched onto the idea of a dragon smitten by a pony
- In the seven years I’ve been watching pony, I’ve only drawn Spike like 14 times. Yes, I feel bad.
