“I keep tellin’ him if he worries like that he’s gonna give himself a heart attack.” Hauberk says with a grin.
“He doesn’t actually expect me to fight demons, does he?” Lockepicke says, trotting beside the large stallion as they lag behind his employer.
“I doubt it. Don’t worry though, I’ll protect ya.” Hauberk says, nudging her lightly with his shoulder.
The pair continue to talk as they walk, occasionally being cursed out by Lucian, who tells them to hurry.
Hauberk is apparently a mercenary for hire, and by his reckoning quite a good one at that. This is also apparently not the first time that Lucian has hired him, and because of that he has some experience fighting the denizens of Tartarus.
“Are they pretty strong?” Lockepicke asks.
“Yeah, but nothing I can’t handle.” Hauberk says proudly, “Lucian says we’ve only been fighting weaklings, though I think that’s him just trying to keep me on my best game.”
They reach the tower in late afternoon, and Lucian commands the mare to speak with enchantment. She approaches the Placard that says “ANNOUNCE YOUR PRESENCE” and calls for Face on The Wall.
A moment later he appears and says,
“Oh, hey there Lockepicke. I’m a little busy at the moment. Could you come back some other time?”
Lockepicke has to admit that the face upon the placard looks much more down than he was before, and she feels a bit of pity for the thing.
What does Lockepicke do?
