Cadence was not born a princess, but was originally an orphaned Pegasus who became the Crystal Princess trough the power of love.
 
Prince Blueblood is actually a far-distant relative, trough Celestia s’ mom Queen Faust who of course also had other brothers and sisters, that had kids with unicorn royalty and other high-ranking ponies, and Blueblood is one of those descendants.

Personally, I think that “Prince” is either the first part of his name (Like many pony names) or he just has that because he may be part of a higher duchy of somesort. He and Cadence just don’t seem closely related to me. Though I do believe that “50 times removed” nephew statement, though I think he has no alicorn blood in him.

Well, Lauren Faust said Prince Blueblood is the “great great great great great great great great great great great (and probably even more greats) nephew on Celestia’s and Luna’s mother’s side, about 52 times removed, roughly speaking.”
