Well they are technically canon, Pony Flash has appeared several times in the background in MLP FIM and the Sirens made their cameo at the end of series 7… and plus there’s the fact that Sunset has returned to the pony world twice now… once in Mirror Magic where she meets Starlight (an highly anticipated moment within both the EQG and MLP followings) and more recently in Forgotten Friendship where Sunset finally reconciles with Celestia and seeks help regarding the memory stone.
