Having opinions is one thing, liking or disliking a character is completely fine, but it's annoying as hell to see how weirdly hostile people can be towards each other in this fandom over the endorsement of a certain character by some random person and I think that's what the OP is touching on. Basically, it says chill out, not "you're not allowed to have negative opinions". It just means don't be a dick.
